WHO ARE WE?
Steep Turnpike Evangelical Church is a group of people from a wide range of backgrounds, who live in the Matlock area, and share a common faith in Jesus Christ. We welcome everyone to our activities and are pleased when other Christians feel they would like to become members of our church.WHAT DO WE BELIEVE?
We believe that the Christian Faith, as explained in the Bible, can be a living, personal faith for people today. We believe it provides answers for the major issues facing us all in the Twenty First Century. We believe all that the Bible teaches, but a summary of the more important points of the Christian Faith can be found in our "Doctrinal Basis".WHAT DO WE DO?
As Christians we believe it is important that we meet together at regular intervals, as the early Christians were in the habit of doing. This Involves Making Time To:
Learn Together from the Bible, which we believe gives
relevant and
important for life today. Members of our own church as well as various visiting
speakers, preach from the Bible at our regular services. We also meet to study
God's Word in smaller groups.
Pray Together for issues relating to our own church, our
community, and
the wider world.
Break Bread Together. We
believe it is important for Christians to
remember the significance of the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ on a
regular basis. We therefore have a service embracing communion every week at
which all Christian believers are welcome to join us.
Work Together. As a group of Christians we try to offer a service to others in our community by arranging activities for young people, as well as supporting others involved in Christian work throughout the world.
HOW DO WE FUNCTION?
We are an independent local church and while we enjoy close links with other evangelical churches, we do not bleong to any formal organisation or denomination. Our church is led by a number of elders who are asked to serve the church by overseeing the Bible teaching and pastoral care of the members. Many of the practical tasks involved in the running of the church are undertaken by members of the church administration team.
The financial needs of the church are met by the giving of church members. We also support various areas of Christian work at home and abroad.
Our church practises baptism by immersion. Believers associated with the church are encouraged to testify publicly to their Christian faith in this way.
